Family Room at St. Luke's Hospital
Parents of children receiving treatment at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids are now able to have all the comforts of home while remaining just steps from their child’s bedside through the Ronald McDonald Family Room at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois and St. Luke’s Hospital have partnered to provide a Ronald McDonald Family Room on the second floor of the Helen G. Nassif Center for Women’s and Children’s Health building.
A Ronald McDonald Family Room can serve dual roles. Families from farther distances often welcome the opportunity to grab a quick snack or close their eyes without leaving the hospital. The Family Room also serves local families who may live nearby, but do not want to leave the hospital for a meal or a shower. The Ronald McDonald Family Room at St. Luke’s Hospital serves families of children being treated on the NICU Unit, Pediatric Unit, or Child/Adolescent Unit.
The following amenities are available to families with children being treated on the NICU Unit, Pediatric Unit, or Child/Adolescent Unit at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. These services are available at no charge to the families.
Before using the amenities of the Ronald McDonald Family Room, please check in with a Family Room Manager. They will be happy to show you around and get you settled!
Family Room Manager
The Ronald McDonald Family Room has three private sleep rooms that are assigned (on a nightly basis) to families who have a child in the hospital. Rooms are used on a one-night basis and will require morning check-out. Guests requesting additional nights stay will be placed back in the daily pool of applicants.
SHOWER SUITES & LAUNDRY FACILITIES
The Ronald McDonald Family Room has two shower suites and two washers & dryers that families are welcome to use. Personal hygiene items, towels and laundry soap are available at no charge to families through the generous donations of community members.
Families are invited to relax in front of the fireplace, play a video game, watch TV, or just step away for a few moments of quiet.
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, & Snacks
The kitchen pantry is stocked with donated food items. Families are welcome to help themselves. In addition, friends and families of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois regularly visit the Family Room to cook and serve meals. Calendars in the hospital will alert families to scheduled meals in the Ronald McDonald Family Room.
