Individual In-House Volunteers are essential to our mission. We rely on our volunteers to help keep the Ronald McDonald House a clean, warm and welcoming place for our families. Volunteer duties include cleaning, laundry, errands, preparing guest rooms, sorting donations, driving the shuttle van to/from the hospital, and helping with special events. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Shuttle van drivers must be at least 18 years of age. Volunteers are asked to commit to one regular three-hour shift per week for the duration of a semester/four months. Shifts are assigned at the beginning of each semester and are structured as 9AM-12PM, 12PM-3PM, 3PM-6PM, or 6PM-9PM. Attendance reliability is required.
Interested in volunteering? We are grateful for your interest, but are not able to accept new volunteers at this time. Please check back for the latest updates. Once we are able to accept applications, you will be able to do so here: Online Application
Preparing a meal for our families is a great way to volunteer. Families appreciate home cooked meals following a long and stressful day at the hospital. All volunteers must be at least age 14 to volunteer at the House and Family Rooms.
Would you like to help, but can’t make it to the House? Consider a meal sponsorship. Your gift of $250 provides a delicious catered meal for families to enjoy. Our staff will take care of all the arrangements. For more information, please contact our Family Program & Volunteer Coordinator, at 319-356-3939 or [email protected].
Just as with any home, it takes a lot of work and helping hands to keep the Ronald McDonald House clean and tidy. We welcome volunteer groups that are interested in performing group service projects such as general cleaning, preparing guest rooms, laundry, vacuuming, sorting donations, organizing the food pantry, etc. We ask that group size is limited to no more than 10 people. Please note that we do not have service groups from 4pm-6pm. All Group Service Project volunteers must be age 14 or older.
For groups with younger children, you are welcome to schedule a tour, create cards or artwork for families, collect pop tabs, or host a donation drive from our Wish List. We also invite families and school groups to volunteer at our various special events throughout the year.
We host several large events throughout the year that are a perfect opportunity for groups, families, or individuals to help out for a day. If you are interested in volunteering at one of our events, please visit the specific event by selecting the event from the drop down menu above.
