The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois (RMHC-EIWI) and the University of Iowa maintain a strong relationship and have been working together to support the needs of families since 1983. The Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City is located on the University of Iowa campus, just three blocks from the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
The relationship between RMHC-EIWI, the University of Iowa, and University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital is exemplified in several ways. Most notably, the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City and the Ronald McDonald Family Room at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital support family members of ill children receiving health care services at the hospital. Additionally, payroll deduction support of RMHC-EIWI from all University of Iowa faculty and staff amounts to approximately $42,500 annually. RMHC-EIWI also receives infrastructure, labor, and support through the UI at little to no cost, including IT/Telecom services, landscaping/groundskeeping, general maintenance, and repair. In addition, about 75 percent of the volunteers at RMHC-EIWI are UI students.
